SURAT: Chief minister Narendra Modi will flag
off the 5-km Surti lala run and a 10-km run in the first
night marathon in the city on Sunday. The half and full
night marathon would be flagged off by Flying Sikh Milkha
Singh.
Police have made elaborate arrangement for the security of
more than 50,000 runners at the event. At least 25
international and 50 national athletes are expected to take
part in the marathon, which would be witnessed by over 10
lakh people.
Additional commissioner of police P C Katara said, "More
than 1,100 strong policemen would be on duty. This includes
11 assistant commissioners of police and 20 police
inspectors. They would be assisted by 3,000 volunteers
recruited by Surat Marathon company."
Police will close the marathon route roads from Sunday
afternoon through a notification. The programmes connected
with the event will begin on Sunday at 4 pm and would
continue until Monday 4am.
